Planetary Crankset Friction Losses?

Regarding the new Truvativ HammerSchmidt, Schlumpf Mountain Drive cranksets that offer two ratios.

What are the frictional losses in each of the gears? Does the lower or higher ratio have the most friction?

Why does the SRAM offering have such a small difference between the ratios? Since cogsets already offers 3x range (11:34), why not at least a 2x range for the planetary front?
So which is the locked ratio and which is the one that uses the gears?

I still see no reason to limit the "overdrive" ratio to such a small increment.

If I read the SRAM site right, the reason for the ratios that they chose for the H.S. was based around the standard Freeride front ring selection of 24/36/bash or 26/38/bash. The proposed advantage is that you get the same gear ratios in a smaller package, less diameter hanging down to get hung up on obstacles.

The friction losses are as to be expected - less when in the "locked" ratio and more in the ratio that uses the gears when they are engaged.
